I have several hopes: 1. That the fact that has the word “demo” in the title doesn’t deter anyone from purchasing this song (also, LOVE the $10 price point - this IS valuable and I wish more artists would recognize their value - not their fault, of course, but…let’s normalize the concept….sorry, i digress.) 2. That if/when this wonderful, perfect piece of music goes from “demo” to something more produced that this version continues to exist (maybe, the $10 signifies scarcity. I don’t know).

I love “demos” - anyone who has ever created anything knows that it’s very hard to catch the magic of the initial impulse. It’s like once it goes from your brain to some tangible/recorded form the Grecian urn has been smashed. You ain’t never getting that back. It doesn’t, of course, mean that once a song goes from a demo to a more produced version it can’t improve (often vastly), but it can never capture the immediacy and intimacy. It’s why true fans seek out demo versions from their favorite artists…they want to get closer to that moment.

The Mammoth Song illustrates this. It’s right there. Like you’re being sung to as it’s emerging. And its emergence is beautiful and something you want to come back to and continue to unpack.

About the Album

This version of The Mammoth Song was recorded during my time studying music production at Cabrillo College in Santa Cruz, CA. It was my first time taking on a project like this and I'm so proud of it. I'm particularly proud of the arrangement of this song, and you'll notice that much of what I created in this demo was kept in the official version that is on the album. It's funny how some of the quirks and "mistakes" that made me feel like this version wasn't "professional" are now some of my favorite parts of the song. They remind me of how much of myself I was willing to put into learning the art of production, and that I didn't let not knowing "everything" hold me back. I hope you enjoy this little peek into my artistic journey!
