Ambient Comfort
There's something comforting about the fact that, when the world came to a halt during the pandemic, many people's first instinct was to create art. I suspect there are hard drives full of musical creations from that period that won't get to see the light of day, but I'm so glad that this release from Andy & Chris is available.
As a whole, the EP is dreamy and comforting. Like a digital daydream to let go the worries of the world. But it's not without variety. "Polyglot" introduces elements of distorted dissonance, possibly a subconscious artifact of the time during which it was created. "It Doesn't Dance Till the End" goes in the other direction and begs the question, "Can you dance to ambient music?" Turns out, the answer is yes!
About the Album
This record was never meant to happen. When Chris reached out to Andy and asked if he had been working on anything, he soon received the gift of guitar loops. It was then that the creation of an EP was explored. Both were feeling the effects of isolation during COVID shelter-in-place orders, so why not create something dreamy and atmospheric to help ease growing stress and uncertainty. Clocking in at just under 16 minutes, and perfect for headphones, and possibly your plants, 'It Was Not Supposed To Happen Like This' might be your perfect musical respite.
