Writing Aftermath taught me this: Nobody can tell you what's going to happen or if your life will turn out the way you planned. Despite this, you have to move forward, you have to make decisions, and only in the aftermath of it all will you understand why things had to happen exactly as they did.

The guitar riff came first, I was sitting outside on the deck at my mom's place in Seattle, reflecting on how many times I'd returned to that same spot during vastly different chapters of my life. I started finger picking it on a loop as a sort of meditation.

This song will be on my third album, which we're recording in November in the Hollywood Hills. I wanted to release the demo to remind myself that a song has many lives and all of those lives should be shared with people.
