Chasing Dreams & Facing Mortality
For all of us that are following our ambitions in one form of another, "what if i die..." feels like a tongue-in-cheek reminder that we're still mortal and to enjoy the ride. I say tongue-in-cheek not just because of the absurdity of the premise of dying over Oklahoma, but because of the excellent music video included in this release. Rae Isla exemplifies the tremendous combination of being serious about your work but not taking yourself too seriously. And it shows in both the song and video.
A treat for anyone who loves the craft of songwriting, Americana music, or just needs a reminder to enjoy the ride.
About the Album
I was sitting on an airplane from NYC to LA, just having come from one of the biggest career opportunities of my life. I had a song in a Robert De Niro movie and got to fly out to sing at the star-studded premiere. While coming down from the high of it all, my old childhood flying anxiety came rushing back and in a panic I began to question all the choices I'd made to pursue my dream…the endless late nights, financial instability, failed romantic relationships. The flight tracker showed us flying over the state of Oklahoma so I thought, oh no, what if i die flying over Oklahoma? Will it all have been worth it?
As a part of the deluxe release, you'll receive the lossless audio file of the song mixed by Lawrence Rothman (Amanda Shires, Jason Isbell) and mastered by Grammy-nominated engineer Pete Lyman (Brandi Carlile, Chris Stapleton), plus the official IMDB movie poster and and a high resolution download of the music video directed by Nelson H. Tracey (Breakup Season), plus the custom hilariously designed airplane safety manual PDF from the music video.
