Whiskey & Wine album cover

"Whiskey & Wine" is a great example of a song that keeps on rewarding you with more the longer you listen to it. Kirsten's vocals are incredible, but it's the arrangement that clues you in that there's something building within the song. Early on, there are chorus and reverb effects sprinkled throughout. Those effects become more apparent as more instrumentation is added until they culminate in this expansive, atmospheric bridge, which plants it firmly outside of traditional folk (in the best way).

I know Kirsten is (or was) a Berklee student. Berklee can be such a great situation for young student-artists where they are suddenly surrounded by other world class musicians and are experimenting with production in ways they couldn't before. This is a snapshot of that, and I hope Kirsten keeps this up long after she graduates.

About the Album

Dear queer people,
Do you remember that friendships from your adolescence, when you had a friendship that was closer than any relationship you've ever had? Remember when that relationship ended, suddenly and strangely, and it took you years to figure out that you were actually in love? This song is for you.
Love,
Kirsten Kirk (and the Dirty Work)
